The following piece was originally published at the time of Contagion’s release in 2011 but is no longer available online. Obviously the film’s portrayal of a global pandemic took on uncanny relevance last year amidst the spread of COVID-19 and while it’s tempting to adapt the piece to this new context, I have left it unaltered.
